What can I look forward to at COMREC Netley?
Here at our Comrec Netley program, we are all very proud to follow our program motto, “A day without laughter is a day wasted”. Our key aim is to learn, grow and develop new skills whilst having fun with our friends. As we all know, if you can have fun while learning it is much more enjoyable, and we sometimes learn new skills without even realising it.
Our staff at Netley are a very family orientated group, providing support to each other and working as a team, therefore creating a very nurturing, trusting and happy environment for all that attend our Netley program.
We are very lucky to have a large grassed back yard, which is utilised each morning, weather permitting. After morning tea, most participants do some form of exercise before commencing activities for the day. This includes such things as ball games, totem tennis, or joining our walking group.
All day, every day, participants have the opportunity to win a ticket into our weekly Reward Cabinet draw. These tickets can be earned for helping each other, good manners, doing dishes, being patient, following instructions, good listening, the list is endless. Any achievement, both big and small is rewarded with a ticket, and our participant’s motivation has increased immensely since the introduction of the reward cabinet. The draw is done every Friday afternoon, with the lucky winner then getting to choose their own prize. If the winner does not attend on that day, they get to choose on their next day at program.
One day each month we celebrate all participants and staff birthdays for that month. During this activity, we all dress up in party costumes, masks and hats and sing and dance. We play various party games such as the ball and spoon race, pin the tail on the donkey and the one legged race. All participants and staff appear to thoroughly enjoy this, especially when the amazing cakes (made by a very talented staff member) come out and we all sing Happy Birthday.
We look forward to the possibility of meeting new potential participants and their families, and we welcome visits by appointment to assess if our day options program is what you are looking for.
